UNCG Bee Campus Initiative
The Bee Campus USA program is an initiative of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation that brings colleges and universities together to protect and promote pollinator health. Through a nationally recognized framework, participating campuses commit to creating and maintaining habitats that support bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators.
UNCG became a Bee Campus USA affiliate in 2023, reflecting the university’s commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and community engagement.
As part of this designation, UNCG has established collaborative efforts among faculty, students, and staff to enhance pollinator habitat across campus. These efforts include expanding native plantings, developing and maintaining pollinator-friendly landscapes, and promoting sustainable land management practices that reduce reliance on harmful pesticides. UNCG also integrates pollinator conservation into its academic and outreach missions. Through research initiatives, educational programming, and community partnerships, the university uses its campus as a living laboratory to advance understanding of pollinator ecology and to inspire action locally and beyond.
