The Plant and Pollinator Center (PPC) is a research, teaching, and community outreach facility located at the Gateway Research Park North Campus in Browns Summit, North Carolina. The PPC is a center for collaborative research across UNCG departments and with other institutions. Basic and applied research conducted at the PPC addresses global issues of food security, facilitates the growth of North Carolina’s agricultural economy, and supports efforts to protect natural environments, especially those that serve as pollinator habitat. The research, innovation, education, and conservation work conducted through the PPC benefit ecologically and economically important plants and pollinators on a local, regional, statewide and global scale.

We are actively expanding PPC facilities, efforts, and impact! With future grants and donations, we plan to:

  • Construct an automated, AI-enabled CONSERVATORY that facilitates cutting-edge research, STEAM education, habitat restoration, and workforce development
  • Install & showcase a LoRa-AI Gateway for extensive, real-time data collection & analysis
  • Expand our indoor facilities to include a collaborative makerspace that supports research and fosters hands-on innovation and problem-solving
  • Transform unfinished space adjacent to the PPC laboratories into a buzzing conference center and community engagement room
  • Equip our research laboratory with state-of-the-art molecular technology such as next generation sequencers and digital PCR systems
  • Cultivate demonstration gardens and a butterfly pavilion to facilitate new research, enhance educational programing, and expand pollinator habitat

100% of donations made to the UNCG Plant & Pollinator Center support PPC Research, Education, and Conservation efforts
